The Health Rewards of Energy Healing: Reiki

Although most people are skeptical of Energy Medicine, there is a real science to it. And it works.

The question most frequently asked is “How does it work?” Reasonable enough. I too am a person of science, so I need an explanation. Well, here’s the scoop.

We have all heard about the Energy Field – that invisible science phenomenon that most of us can’t see and know nothing about. Energy Healing is based on the premise that we are more than our physical bodies. We also have an energy body made up of our aura, chakras (energy centers) and meridians (energy pathways).

Like our physical body that takes in food to nourish it and give it strength, our energy body does the same but with energy instead of food. That is why it is so toxic to be near EMF generators (cell phones, computers, microwaves, etc.) and so beneficial to be near healthy frequencies (waterfalls, beaches, happy people). The energy fields take energy in, the chakras break it down, and the meridians distribute it throughout the body.

We are all familiar with meditation, the ability to quiet our mind and thoughts, by going within to achieve great relaxation and significant healing. This is the Energy Medicine of self- healing. And all of us can do this if we take the time to practice and perfect it. Reiki can achieve the same end result, except you don’t have to work as hard to attain it. You just need to be attuned to its frequency and educated on how to harness it.

For this reason,  Reiki is so important. Reiki is a complementary healing technique that works with the energy body to shift it into a state of healing. And the great thing about it is that it is more than a self-healing technique; you can heal your friends, family, pets, plants and even your relationships. Time and distance are not an issue, since energy can travel instantaneously. Sort of like when you want your friend to call you and then the phone rings with him on the other end.

Unlike other energy healing modalities, Reiki is certifiable (certificate diplomas usually given when each level is completed) and recognizable (most people have heard of it). And that is why I love teaching it.

It is simple enough to learn, usually in one day. And the more you use it, the more proficient you become at mastering it. Greater competencies and capabilities can be achieved by taking additional classes on it, as well as other types of energy healing. Personally, I have found that learning other energy healing modalities have made me a more well rounded Reiki Master.

The Science
Conventional medicine works on the theory of Newtonian physics: There’s a direct relationship between cause and effect. To change a particle (illness, imbalance) you must directly work on the particle. Makes sense, but as we have seen with many illnesses, this doesn’t always work so well. If it did, we would have the cure for every disease.

Energy (holistic) medicine recognizes that there is more to affecting change than going directly after the symptom. Sometimes you have to affect the field to create a shift in the particle; like listening to uplifting music to change your emotional state which will ultimately affect your physical health. This is based on Quantum physics: using indivisible units of energy called quanta to affect the field around it. And this theory basis of Quantum physics explains the precepts behind Energy Medicine, inclusive of Reiki. When you can harness these unseen forces, you can affect healing on all levels.
