Himalayan Salt

Himalayan Salt has recently been re-discovered as one of nature’s purest and most complete mineral salt sources on Earth. There are 84 minerals found in the salt, and for that reason it has tremendous therapeutic effects.

To begin with, it is great in everyday cooking. Take your purified, iodized and chemicalized white table salt and throw it in the garbage. Not only is it demineralized, many brands actually add dextrose (sugar) to make it taste better. So now you can develop a blood sugar problem from the additive, along with the high blood pressure from the excessive sodium content. I not only use Himalayan salt for preparing my family meals, but it goes into the homemade doggy gruel that I make regularly for my puppy, and she is an extremely healthy robust canine. (If anyone wants this health promoting recipe- just ask.)

Aside from putting it in your food, you can also use Himalayan salt to maintain good oral hygiene. Add a teaspoon of the salt to water, and let the crystals dissolve. Then use it for a good gargle to stop halitosis. If you have sore and bleeding gums or any oral infection, rinse three to four times a day with a Himalayan salt and water solution. An infected tooth can be painful and make your entire body hurt. Using Himalayan salt with water and swishing it around the sore tooth can help draw out the pathogens and kill bacteria and germs. But of course, this is a transitory treatment. You should still make an appointment to see your regular dentist for a definitive diagnosis and treatment.

As a salt-water solution, it can also be used as a Sole (pronounced solay) solution to increase your absorption of essential minerals. Easy enough to make:

Recipe for Sole Solution

  1. Place several crystal salt stones in a small glass jar with a wooden or plastic lid (do not use a metal lid).
  2. Add quality drinking water to the top of jar.
  3. Let this mixture sit for at least 24 hours or until the crystals have dissolved.

There should be some chunks of salt left at the bottom of the jar. Leave them there, as this indicates that you have a truly saturated salt solution in the water part (Sound familiar from high school chemistry?)

  1. Ingest 1 to 2 tablespoons of this solution every morning on an empty stomach.
  2. Drink 1 glass of plain quality water immediately afterwards.
The direct effects can be felt within days, maybe even sooner. If you are jittery or nervous, you may find yourself feeling calmer. Chronic muscle twitches may begin to disappear. Blood pressure issues and conditions related to mineral imbalance (pH, digestion, energy levels, etc.) within the body will slowly begin to find its homeostasis.

Although ingesting the salt is extremely health promoting, there is still much to be said about soaking your body in Himalayan salt. My favorite use of Himalayan salt crystals is in the bathtub. It is recommended to add up to 1 cup of salt to the bath water, soak from 15 to 45 minutes. It is not only relaxing, but also a great detoxifier for heavy metals and other toxins stored in the cells. To really distress, just add a few drops of your favorite essential oil. I personally am a big fan of Rose and/or Texas Cedarwood essential oils. You can buy these in any health food store. Guaranteed that you will feel like a different person when you step out of that tub!

And last but not least, is the use of these crystals as EMF protectors. As you have read in my Invisible Toxins blog, EMFs are everywhere. We need to be consciously aware and find ways to negate our exposure. Himalayan Salt lamps will do just that. They continuously release negative ions neutralizing toxins in the air. Great to place them by computer work stations or the bedroom to receive maximum exposure.

The possibilities of Himalayan salt are vast. These mineral salt crystals were created 250 million years ago from ancient oceans that became trapped after tectonic plate movement and subsequent evaporation. As a result, these residual minerals exist in ionic form and that means they can be easily absorbed and utilized by our bodies. It is only found in the pristine remote reaches of the Himalayan Mountains, so it is a very pure product.

The Earth has so many natural resources to support us on our journey of health. It is up to us to make educated decisions. Now that you have been informed, which salt will you choose?
